Back Problems

Problems in the back can be down to a number of things. These can include:

  • Slipped or prolapsed discs
  • Muscle Strains
  • Poor posture

We will be able to assess and then provide the individual with a plan to help correct the problem and decrease the chances of it occurring again.

Interventions which can be implemented include:

  • Soft Tissue work
  • Trigger point treatment
  • Mobilisations of the facet joints
  • Postural assessment & management
  • Rehabilitation programmes

Strains

A strained muscle is the result of a muscle being pushed too far and becoming overstretched further than it can go. As a result of this tears occur in the muscle resulting in discomfort to the individual.

Protection to the muscle in question is the first port of call, then we are able to provide the treatment we deem necessary in due course.

This can include:

  • Ice therapy to help with the pain
  • Soft tissue work
  • Heat therapy
  • An programme specifically designed for the patients needs and day to day life

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is described as a pain that may have lasted longer than 3 months. It is long term and certain activities can cause the condition to flare up.

Chronic pain can be very frustrating for the individual and effects individuals not only with their training but day to day life.

Interventions which can be implemented to help include:

  • Heat Therapy
  • Soft tissue work
  • Mobilisations and manipulations
  • Stretching techniques
  • Specifically designed programmes to help alleviate the pain.

Ligament & Tendon Injury

These injuries tend to occur under similar circumstances of that of a muscle strain. Over stretching, forced movement patterns and twisting movement patterns can also cause ligament & tendon injuries.

Pain, swelling, decreased range of movement and pain when weight bearing can indicate this type of injury.

Treatments which we can use to help with these symptoms include:

  • Ice therapy
  • Stretching exercises
  • Strengthening exercises
  • Mobilisations
  • Soft Tissue work
  • Taping techniques
  • Rehabilitation programme to decrease the chances of this injury reoccurring

Fractures

A fracture is diagnosed by X-ray and usually results in the individual being put in a cast/sling.

Once out of that sling we will be able to aid the individual get back to where they were before the injury occurred both in their training programmes but also day to day life.

Interventions which can be implemented to help with this include:

  • Soft tissue work - help with the decreased range of motion, restore muscle function
  • Strengthening work - to the muscles which have not been used whilst in a cast
  • Rehabilitation programme - to get the individual back to full function
  • Heat therapy
  • Trigger point therapy

Headaches

Stiffness in the muscles, joints, fascia and nerves can be the root of headaches.

They can be dull aches, or more specific headaches located above the eyes, temples or back of the skull.

To help with this headache of headache we can:

  • Mobilise the joints in the neck
  • Stretch & strengthen specific muscles
  • Soft tissue work on the tight muscles
  • Postural correction

Joint Problems

Joint problems can be down to wear and tear and includes such conditions as osteoarthritis.

Things can be done to help with the pain and discomfort that is experienced with this type of problem.

Things such as:

  • Training programmes
  • Soft tissue work
  • Mobilisations
  • Heat & Ice therapy

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis can cause swelling and pain within the joint as well as the surrounding area. It can also become stiff and ache.

Prevention of the condition getting worse is what we want so there are a number of things that can be done to help with this.

This includes:

  • Heat Therapy
  • Soft tissue therapy
  • Rehabilitation programmes
  • Ways to modify things to avoid the condition becoming worse
  • Strengthening exercises
